Movie Night

Tonight I cooked dinner for Mark rather than going out and after dinner we watched the movie I had rented. I had listened to the book on audio last summer and we discussed the book at BAM. I wanted to watch the movie too. Now I want to listen to the sequel on audio! And oh - dinner was meatloaf, roasted veggies and apple cobbler.

  2. A short story of an even shorter submarine adventure when I was in the Navy.

Inside the sub, where all the instrument panels are located, is a monitor called "The Christmas Tree."
It is a circle of lights that are either green or red (hence "Christmas Tree". All green lights means the hatch is open (it is usually a good thing to be on the surface when that happens.) Conversely, when they are all red, the hatch is closed and sealed and it is safe to dive.

The first time I entered a sub, when I got below I was created by a cheering and laughing crowd, none of whom I knew, and I hadn't even told my first joke yet.

The joke was, all the lights on the Christmas Tree went red. The man on watch yelled out, "Who closed the damned hatch?" At that precise moment I made my appearance on deck and they all turned green again.

Naval history in the making! It was my first and last time aboard an active duty submarine.
