Fair Oaks Dairy Farm

These are the towers where they take the cow poop and turn it into both fertilizer for their fields and electricity for their buildings.

Today a friend and I visited Fair Oaks Dairy Farm. http://fofarms.com/

  1. I forgot to mention that the reason that they kept glass between us and the cows the entire time was to keep any germs away from the cows.

  2. Wow! I'd call 32,000 cows a factory, not a farm.

  3. I agree it is a highly automated operation. There are ten farms actually involved in this group. The cows are well cared for and all is done in an organic manner. They do not use the growth hormone that is debated about these days to increase milk production. But it is clear the cows are like machinery in some respects.

  4. I think 3000 cows to each farm. They are milked three times a day.
