Remembering The Early Days Of Online Genealogy

During the late 1900's I became interested in genealogy.  But I did not get really rolling with my research until the early 2000's.   In those days the internet was growing leaps and bounds and those with the shared interest of genealogy were connecting.  One early site that is nostalgic for me and many others is the old  RootsWeb site and can be found HERE.  As many are aware it has been offline lately.  The bones of it had out of date technology.  Since RootsWeb is maintained by Ancestry that is the company that has been working on getting it updated and back online.  RootsWeb has always been a free online site.  One of the cool things that were available on RootsWeb was its mailing lists.  They were divided by subject and people would sign up for them.  Questions would be posted and discussions would be joined in and the comment threads would arrive in members email boxes.  They were lots of fun.  Even after people quit using them they were great resources to read through because all the content from them was still on the site.  This evening I received the following email announcement.  I consider it good news.
