Illusions
by
With age, with reluctance,
I lose my illusions,
look back on those sweet desires
I imagined as prize
as though I knew
what I was being drawn into.
Only late am I learning
what attention must be paid
and how help comes
not to blaze a path of light
but to sustain our faltering steps,
to see us through the night.
I enjoyed the poem and certainly the video, too. I was interested to see who was in the audience and to hear from them as well. Glaser is a very sensitive and loving person and poet. Thanks very much, I enjoyed this lovely post, Mary Ellen.
ReplyDelete*Sigh* Why isn't getting older easier than we thought it would be when we were younger LOL?

I am keeping ALL my illusions safely tucked away so I have something to play with when I am old and grey ;).
ReplyDeleteI was not familiar with this author, but from what I have read here, I think I'd like the rest of his poetry. His words remind me of that adage about hindsight having 20/20 vision.
SUSTAIN ME AS I HURTLE FORWARD LORD
ReplyDeleteMary Ellen, thank you for introducing me to this poet's work. I like him very much, and I really enjoyed watching the video.
ReplyDeleteSometimes opur lives pass as if we were shot from a cannon. I'm not ready to land yet. Nice post and I enjoyed the video. Would enjoy sharing some thoughts on writing with you.
ReplyDeleteWonderful, meaningful poem. Great video too. A new to me poet. TY for the introduction.
