This post is the continuation of my celebration of Women's History Month by using the blogging prompts at The Accidental Genealogist. The original list of prompts for the month can be found HERE. And the prompt for today is:
March 14 — Newsmakers? Did you have a female ancestor who made the news? Why? Was she famous or notorious? Did she appear in the social column?
Certainly I have many female ancestors with obituaries, wedding and/or engagement announcements, honor roll listings, graduations, and anniversary announcements. But I have one distant cousin that I share an ancestor with who warranted an entire magazine piece. The line we share is the line of Peter Sheafor who migrated to the Butler County Ohio area about the time Ohio became a state. I descend from Peter's daughter Elizabeth and this women married a descendant of Peter's son Jacob. Her name was Cora Sophis Gillgiham Sheafor 1881- 1967 and she lived in the area of Richland County Wisconsin. The newspaper article follows as does the magazine article. She enjoyed nature, especially birds, and wrote poetry.
